Kindergarten Classroom Lessons

Kindergarten Lessons focus heavily on emotions.  I use the Little Spot series by Diane Alber to teach students about each emotion.  We learn that emotions are the umbrellas that hold other feelings.  For example, the emotion Anger can encompass feelings of frustration, stress, irritation or annoyance, being grumpy, etc.  Each Little Spot is an emotion and every month, we learn about a new Little Spot.  Students love the Little Spots and get so excited to know who we're going to meet next!  Here is our progression of classroom lessons for the year, by month:

September: Get to know Mrs. Brosius and her job here at school

October: A Little Scribble Spot

November: A Little Peaceful Spot

December: A Little Spot of Anger

January: A Little Spot of Anxiety

February: A Little Spot of Sadness

March: A Little Spot of Confidence

April: A Little Spot of Happiness

May: A Little Spot of Love

A Little Spot of Emotion Box Set

"This series was developed to teach children about the various emotions we all encounter and how to manage those feelings in healthy ways.  In this series, children are introduced to seven common emotions: Happiness, Confidence, Love, Anger, Sadness, Anxiety, and Peaceful.  Each of these emotions is then highlighted in its own book, which provides little readers with vivid examples and realistic coping strategies that are easy to understand and apply to everyday life."
